A possible source for natural hydrogen ?

When considering the most favorable geological province for hydrogen exploration, the Norwegian Sea region presents several features that make it particularly promising:

  • Thinned-crust basins, where serpentinization of ultramafic rocks may occur in the deeper parts of the Vøring Basin.

  • An extensive system of magmatic intrusions (Latest Paleocene sills and dykes) emplaced within the thick Cretaceous stratigraphic succession of the Vøring Basin.

  • Shallow granitic basement highs accompanied by subsequent volcanic intrusions
